Event planning for a small business event

Audience, who do you wish to invite? Have a clear idea of who your existing customers are, or indeed do you wish to target potential customers.

Invitation, how do you wish to invite your guests? Depending on your audience some may open e-mails from you if you personalise them. Some events will be best served by issuing a VIP invitation, by way of a novel invite sent by post. The demographic will be an indicator of what way the audience you target will respond to your invitation. So, know your customers.

Make a list of details with regards to the event. Where to host, what food and drink you wish to serve, what AV will you require if any? This can be an extensive list to consider. Location and time too can be key factors when planning an event. Suiting your guests is the way to ensure a full attendance of your event.

Have a clear picture of what you wish to achieve from your business event. Are you launching a new product or service? Are you rewarding existing customers and striving to achieve growth from targeting potential new clients? When setting the date for the event ensure the date doesn’t clash with other industry events.

Set out a budget for your event and stick to it. Set out clear goals – make it SMART Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. Be clear of what you are trying to achieve. Ensure these goals are realistic to your business.

Plan ahead of time – with so much to consider planning ahead will remove a lot of the stress.
